What to wear? Day 1

Before I start let me say this...these are MY feelings and calling.  I by no means am judging anyone who doesn't feel the same as I.  I have felt a conviction from God to change the way I dress.  I have not felt feminine for a long time.  I have challenged myself to do it for 7 days.  Today is day 1!  I am wearing dresses or skirts only for one week and I will go from there.  Last night we went to a few local thrift stores and got enough dresses and skirts for a whole week, plus enough for our daughters as well.  They wanted to do the challenge with me!!  What a blessing it has been so far.

"Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, but rather by means of good works, as it proper for women making a claim to godliness." 1 Timothy 2:9

A while ago the children and I were doing our daily Bible lesson.  It just happened to be on modesty.  It posed some very convicting questions.

Like:

What images come to mind when you hear the word "modesty"?

What about the immodest fashions prevalent in our world today? Does it matter? Why or why not?

Must a young lady dress like her grandmother? How can young women still dress youthfully but also modestly?

Do clothes, or the lack thereof, have the power to lead people to sin?

Should Christian women wear clothes that attract sexual attention? Why or why not?

Give an example of immodest dress.

Some scripture we read:
I JOHN 2:16-17: “For all that is in the world -- the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life -- is not of the Father but of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”

MATTHEW 5:27-28: “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a women to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

HEBREWS 13:4: “Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled, but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.”

ROMANS 14:13: “Let us not judge one another anymore but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way.”

Modesty is an attitude. Consequently, some women may not realize that what they wear could cause others to stumble. People in the church should encourage and help teach young ladies and young gentlemen to dress modestly with love and tact. Titus 2:4-5 implores older ladies to teach the younger women.

Ladies, what do we want our clothes to say about us? What message does God want us to communicate?

I had a hysterectomy about 10 years ago and couldn't stand anything touching my abdomen for a long time. I wore loose fitting dresses(like the one in your photo), and found them to be quite comfortable. I wore them for a long time, before switching back to slacks. It really wasn't bad at all. Best wishes with your challenge, I'm sure God will lead you in the direction that He wants you to go. Blessings, Kathy

I really like that dress. It looks so comfy and I love the neutral colors. I look forward to seeing your week progress with the photo updates.

That's cool! I have been wanting to wear more skirts, too. My husband loves them and I feel much more feminine in them. Have fun with your challenge. I just might do the same!

I am so glad that you are doing this challenge. I do currently wear only skirs and dresses because of the Godly convictions. I must say that I am treated with more respect, with care and concern from even strangers. I hope that you see such an amazing difference as I have experienced. May God bless you on this journey to modesty. (((HUGS)))

I did the exact same thing a few weeks ago - seven days of no pants. I don't say just skirts and dresses because I do have one split skirt that I wear (hubby loves it and says I still look and act very feminine in it so it counts in my book). I still do mostly skirts and dresses. If I have a big cleaning day, I may have to go with pants since I don't have many really casual skirts.

I can't speak for others, but I have noticed a change in my behavior and the way hubby responds to me.

I wore a dress for the first time in years last Friday night for my daughter's deb ball. It took a long time to feel comfortable with doing that. On the night it was fine. The issue of petticoats etc. is a complete mystery these days. When I was buying the deb dress (white long for coming out into society in a ball/formal dance) the shop lady who sells bridal and evening wear as well, said that they don't wear stockings or petticoats and that the debs should wear support undies to hide the underpant line even if they don't need it. I should have bought my dress there to get some advice.

The scripture on the expense of the clothes is interesting, as I was taking a few mental notes of what others wore there, but sadly not that many.

moj8668 that is interesting. I got a positive reaction, wondering if it was purely because I was wearing a dress. Interesting. The last two I bought I didn't feel comfortable wearing.

Oh how I love my skirts! I do have 2 pairs of jeans that I wear occasionally (just bought the second pair about a month ago for gardening lol) and some pj pants for around the house/cleaning, but for the most part I'm all for skirts. My problem is finding skirts/dresses that are long enough! I prefer ankle length and that's really hard to find.

Like some other ladies have said, there is a big difference in the way my husband looks and acts around me if I'm in a skirt/dress. I'm not sure if he even realizes it, but I like it :-D It truly makes me feel like a lady.
