Show and Tell Friday

Welcome to my show and tell Friday post. This platter is from a set that my Great-Grandmother gave me. I believe it was one she received when she was married to my Great-Grandfather. I was so touched when my Aunt delivered them to me. We lived right next door to my Great-Grandmother while growing up. I remember going over to her house after school and getting all kinds of goodies from her. She had this one red tin that was always filled with baked goods. She used this platter all the time. Even for those goodies we always went over for. She didn't believe in leaving the "good china" for only company. She always told me family is the most important company you will ever had. I'm sad to say that I do not live by that....I'm afraid to use the dishes with children. I keep the platter out and use it for roasts and such. My Great-Grandmother is still living but does not remember much anymore.

WOW, what a great memory you have in your home! I just love taking out the things that belonged to people I have loved and using them somehow! If they sit in a box out of the way, what good are they!!!
Kudos to you for atleast using it for some meals!!!!

That's really nice! What a sweet memory you have, and what a great attitude your Great-Grandmother had too. My Grandma let us use her china also. When she passed away, I was given what was left of it. There was only 4 pieces. But they are beautiful. I have been slowly adding to the collection with pieces I find in the same pattern on ebay. Sad to say, but I also don't use the pieces with the children. We have tile floors, and tile breaks everything.

How wonderful that you get to use the platter. If you are scared to use it often because you don't want to destroy such a nostalgic piece, maybe get yourself a "new" piece from a garage sale or flea market and use it all the time and create some memories. Then you won't feel bad if it broken.

My mother has some of my grandmothers dinnerware. I claim what I want. Just for keepsakes not all the pieces.

your platter is so pretty. I agree with grandmother, you should use it but very careful, when around young children.

Beautiful platter! I would use it - children need to be taught that some things need to be handled with care.

Hi Jen! You're invited to "My Favorite Things Monday" inspired by the Sound of Music! You sharing a picture and story of your current 'favorite thing' that cheered you up when life got you down, would be a blessing! I hope you can come! www.sarahlcc.blogspot.com
