Show and Tell Friday

Last weekend our Church had a craft day. It was so much fun. I took my 2 daughters with me and we had the time of our lives. There were a total of 6 crafts you could make and between the 3 of us we made them all. It was a great day and a great opportunity for our Church to outreach into the community. There was even a scrapbooking table set up for those to work on their books. I did not bring any of my stuff because I was doing so many of the crafts. We also had soup and sandwhiches, bagels, fruit ect. to eat. It was such a great day. I recomend this to other Churches as well. If you should have any questions on how to start please email me. This is a Christmas tree made from a Styrofoam cone, garland, with a star pick in the top. This is one that Hannah made and is so proud of. I was surprised she still wanted to go considering she was in the hospital the night before with pneumonia. She is a true craft person!!

This is a pumpkin made out of fabric. Each one of us made one of these. It was so much fun, you sew around the circle (like you would sew a yo-yo) then carefully (i stress carefully) stuff it and pull the thread to close. Lets just say there were exploding pumpkins all over the place....LOL! We finished ours the next day when we came home. My son even made one. He was pretty upset that he couldn't go to the craft day also. Maybe next year.

These are salt and pepper shakers. I'm so excited about these because I painted them myself!!! I've never painted anything except a wall and that didn't even turn out this well. Who knew I could paint. I came home loaded with paints asking my Husband what could I paint now....mirror...windows...LOL!

Jewelry making has become so big now. My daughter Katie was very excited to learn how to do this. She loved it. She ended up making 3 pairs of earrings. This is one set she made. She has now asked for more stuff for Christmas to make jewelry. I'm so happy she liked doing it. Does anyone know if you can make rings?

This is a snowman ornament. My daughter Hannah and I did this one together. She is so thrilled with it. But I won't let her touch it because it is actually a light bulb. You know what happens to those when they are dropped, especially on hard wood floors. I think these are so cute. We may make more to give as gifts.

This is my first attempt at making a wreath. I did enjoy it, although it is a bit crooked in this picture. I still have to add a bow on to the top and fill in the gaps with some more white flowers. There is a snowman for each family member. I really liked making it. I have an extra wreath I bought just in case I screwed this one up!

My Grandfather had such an impact on my life as many Grandfather's do. He was first and foremost a child of the King. I use to spend many summers at their home. They lived up on a hill in the woods. I still love to go there to visit my Grandmother.

Another thing about him was his tremendous talent as an artist, he also loved to make things out of wood. My favorite of his paintings are the barns. I love the country and everything about country living. Below are a few of the ones he had given me over the years for college graduation, birthdays, and just because. I look at them and I am swept back to when I was a child visiting them.

My Grandfather had a studio down in the basement. The room was known as the dungeon. We knew NEVER to go in there. I think it was probably one of my cousins who told me many "horror" stories about that room. I remember when my Grandparents first met my Husband they were so smitten with him. Growing up no one was allowed down to Grandpa's rooms. What did Grandpa do the first time we visit them? Take Matt down to show him all his "toys" as he described them. My Husband loves woodworking as well. No one could believe that Grandpa was sharing this with him.

This is one they gave me for my college graduation. I think I have a barn painting in each season. I just noticed that as I was posting this.
The painting above is of my Husband's ancestors' barn. It was were his family had settled back in the 1800's. The ironic thing was that my Grandfather painted this barn before he even knew my Husband. They gave it to us when we announced our engagement.

This is my aunt's barn. She had morgan horses, I'm not sure, but I think she only has one left. It was always fun riding them when we were kids.
This is one from their area. Next time you are out and about take the time to stop and look at some old barns. They sure don't make them like this anymore! Have a great day!!

Show and Tell Friday

This weeks show and tell is our house make over project. We (I say we loosely, it was actually my Husband and Dad who did all the work.) finally finished the roof. The next step will be to paint the house. Most of it is scrapped and primed. The colors we picked out are cream with a slight yellow tint with burgundy trim. We are very excited to be almost done.

This is my Dad waiting for another set of shingles. We had to replace the whole front facing of the roof which took up more time. Andrew our 8 (9 on Sunday) loved climbing the ladders to help the men folk.

Here you can see the front facing is done...we found were most of the bees nests were at. My poor husband was stung pretty bad yesterday. The shingles are brown.

Below are the colors we have picked out. They are the closest I could find on the computer. I can not wait to be finished. We are also replacing 2 doors. You would not believe the deals you get if you wait for spring and summer to pass. We did not do this on purpose but a lot of supplies go on a deep discount to get rid of them. But if you do wait you will not have a lot of choices you may if you bought them early. But the Lord has provided the materials we have and we are happy with them.

Show and Tell Friday

Welcome to my show and tell Friday post. This platter is from a set that my Great-Grandmother gave me. I believe it was one she received when she was married to my Great-Grandfather. I was so touched when my Aunt delivered them to me. We lived right next door to my Great-Grandmother while growing up. I remember going over to her house after school and getting all kinds of goodies from her. She had this one red tin that was always filled with baked goods. She used this platter all the time. Even for those goodies we always went over for. She didn't believe in leaving the "good china" for only company. She always told me family is the most important company you will ever had. I'm sad to say that I do not live by that....I'm afraid to use the dishes with children. I keep the platter out and use it for roasts and such. My Great-Grandmother is still living but does not remember much anymore.

Show and Tell Friday

Welcome to my show and tell Friday! My show and tell for this week is my Mother in Law's recipe box. I never got the chance to know my Mother in Law. She passed away 6 months before my Husband and I met. But because of the box I feel I do know her. Every time I make something from these recipes it feels as if I know her through the recipes. Isn't the kitchen where the memories are made?

These recipes are ones my Husband grew up on. They are his comfort food, when I make them it takes him back. The recipe showing is one of his favorites, Chocolate Snack Cake, it is kind of like a big cookie. It was also a way for me to impress my Father in Law (who has since past also) by my grabbing a recipe from Agnes' file.

Handwriting is important, especially in this day and age when everything is done on the computer. Almost nothing is handwritten anymore. So I've made it a habit of mine to write down our favorite recipes for my Children to have when God calls me home. Your handwriting is the only part of you someone can hang onto.

Show and Tell Friday

This is my first show and tell Friday. Since I really have not prepared for this ahead of time I thought, hmmm what can I show and tell? Well I will show and tell my family and share a little of who we are.

We are a homeschooling family that lives in NY. I am a SAHM that is striving hard to be the Keeper at home God has called me to be. It is a daily challenge for me, but through prayer God helps me through the day. I enjoy being involved in our Church activities, scrapbooking, faithbooking, crafts, cooking, gardening and recently canning and making jelly.

This is my darling Husband Matt, he is going to be thrilled at the photo I chose to post today. He is my best friend next to our Lord and Savior. He works full time 50+ hours a week and also has started toward his BA degree in Biblical Studies with a minor in Ministry. He has been called by God into ministry. We are very excited for this new chapter in our lives. He enjoys woodworking in his spare time....when ever that is! Even though he is very busy he always takes time for us. He helps out in the homeschooling part in the evening...he is the math teacher....YEAH!!

These 3 clowns...I mean children are our crew. The one in the middle is our oldest, Katrina, she is 14 going on 40! She enjoys being in the kitchen with me. Just yesterday she helped me peel 8 quarts of tomatoes that we canned this morning. The one in the grey shirt is Hannah she is 11 and refuses to grow up...she wants to be a little girl her whole life! LOL She enjoys all things girl, princess, American Girl Dolls, Barbie. The boy of the family is Andrew he is 8 (soon to be 9 in October) he is 100% boy. He has started learning how to work with wood along side my Husband. He also is very interested in becoming a firefighter (as a former firefighter it does my heart well!!)
