Our Baby Chicks!

 

We purchased 9 baby chicks last week. They are growing SO fast. We had to put a screen over the brooder because they are now getting their wings. They stand on anything and jump flapping their wings. LOL! I just love sitting and watching them. 

The Sapphire Gem breed are heavy egg layers. This is what we want. If you raise chickens you should really check them out. We got ours from Tractor Supply but I know their chicks come from Hoover Hatchery in Iowa. 

Until we purchased this breed we had not even heard of them. They are apparently a rare breed. They are well known for their blueish feathers. They are believed to be a mix of Barred Plymouth Rock and Blue Plymouth Rock breeds. They are very calm, although our girls are very active. LOL. They lay around 290 extra large eggs a year. WHEW! We have already had a few people say they are interested in buying eggs from us. 

They are so much fun to watch! I still cannot believe this is our life now. We have waited so long for this day to arrive. Owning an older home does not come without challenges. Just this past weekend we had a water problem. So my dad came over (thankfully it happened before they went back to FL) and has the water working again, but the upstairs bathroom toilet has no water. UGH! We still love it!

We are so blessed that the Lord placed us into this property. We cannot wait to plant our garden, and watch our chickens grow. Have a blessed evening.
