Update and the Olympics

I can't believe it's been a week since my last post.  I have been pretty sick.  Actually I have been under the weather since December 16.  It started as just a simple cold.  Then progressively got worse.  Last week when I woke up my throat was swollen so much it was almost closed up.  Boy did it hurt!!  Then on top of that I was coughing a lot.  Nothing we did seemed to help.  So I finally went to the doctor.  Well my doctor is on vacation so I had to see someone else.  Something I do not like!  This person had a student with her so was running behind.  The student came in and examined me.  BUT the NP I was seeing did not even look at me or my throat.  They did do a strep test which was negative.  I just knew I had something.  My ears began to hurt so much I wanted to cry...but that would just lead to more coughing.  LOL!!  So when I started having numbness in my face last night my husband took me to the ER.  Low and behold I have a double ear infection and a upper respiratory infection.  Geech!!  The numbness in my face scared the daylights out of me!  Of course I thought I was having a stroke!  I am so thankful I do not get sick very often.  So I'm sure I'll be healthy the rest of 2014!  I am rejoicing in the Lord that I am on my way to recovery!

Onto my other topic of this post.... The Olympics!!  We always take a few days off of school and watch the Olympics.  This year we will be watching with great anticipation!  You see my Dad's cousin made the US Speedskating team!  We are pretty excited about watching this year.

So here are some neat things we are going to be learning during the upcoming month.  I mentioned here before that we have friends who were missionaries to Russia.  They are now back in the states but we grew to love Russia through them.  So this is a perfect fit for our family!  Olympics and Russia will go hand in hand.

So we are starting off with a refresher study of Russia from Homeschool Share

We are also going to do a quick study of the Nutcracker.  We usually watch this at Christmas but time just got away from us with me being sick.

Then we will take a few days and learn about the history of the Olympics.  We will be using a little of the Ancient Greece lapbook from Homeschool Share.
But best of all we will learning and watching about the Olympics with more intent this year.  A website I found that has a bunch of wonderful print outs about the Olympics is called Activity Village.

The Sochi 2014 Olympic website also has a ton of interesting articles on all of the athletes.  But one website above all else interests me the most.... the one of my Dad's cousin!! His website,  Kyle Carr  will give you a little history of him.  Go on over and check it out.   You can even order a "Team Carr" T-shirt.  I cannot wait to order one...or many!

Check back here frequently to find out how our Olympic studies are going.

Sorry to hear that you've been so sick. I'm wishing you a speedy recovery.

Congratulation to KYLE on representing your country at the Olympics. I wish him success. I can see why you would get excited.

I no longer watch the Olympics as my work schedule is busy and I'm not much of a sport person anyway as I get older, my interest in olympics sports has waned.

Hugs,
JB

So sorry to hear of your illness, but glad they figured it out. Hopefully you'll be back on your feet soon. The homeschool study looks fun. I kind of miss doing that.

First of all - I love that cup!!!!

Second - That sounds exactly like what my daughter had! The whole throat thing. She was sick twice in a row with only a week between. Yuck.
Well you will certainly be in my prayers!

Third - I love the Olympics!!!! I can't wait!

Oh, PS come enter my book giveaway and my name giveaway (the name giveaway is on the top of the blog under Contest!

I hope you are feeling better now!

We love watching the Olympics too - especially the winter ones. Thanks for sharing your plans on how to make it more meaningful!
