Some houses try to hide the fact
That children shelter there,
Ours boasts of it quite openly,
The signs are everywhere!
For smears are on the windows,
Little smudges on the door.
I should apologize I guess
For toys strewn on the floor.
But I sat down with the children
And we played and laughed and read,
And if the door bell does not shine,
Their eyes will shine instead!
For when at times I am freed to choose
The one job or the other,
I want to be a homemaker
But first I'll be a Mother!

One day you will turn around and the children will no longer be little. I want to spend my time with my children. It doesn't mean I don't take pride in our home...because I do. It just looks lived in. One day it will be just my husband and I. Then I can have a Better Homes and Gardens looking house. Until then, I'm going to take the time to spend with my children.

What a lovely poem and such a good reminder. The time passes too quickly with little ones.
