Homeschool Legacy~We the People

Homeschool Legacy's Once-a-week Unit Studies are created with me in mind.  I am certain of that!  I know i know it's been said before, but trust me they are for ME!  Our lives could not be any busier if I tried.  I'm a full-time college student, homeschool mom, wife, church member, oh yes and soon to be a foster mom.  So you can see that when it comes to our homeschool we need something that is right out of the box.  No planning necessary.  WELL we have found our perfect fit.  OH my do I love being a part of TOS Review Crew

We were given the opportunity to review "We The People".

The Once-a-week studies are amazing!  The only thing I had to do for preparing was:
1. Get the book list and visit the library.  We already do this often so it was not a big deal at all.
2. Look over the necessary schedule.

This is by far the easiest curriculum we have used.  We have been using Unit studies since we started homeschooling.  It is our "thing".

Our lessons looked something like this:
Week 1~~
Family read aloud followed by a discussion of what we read.
Family devotional.  Again followed by a discussion.
Timeline work
Independent Reading.  A book chosen from our basket regarding the Constitution.
In the Kitchen...Hoecakes a favorite of George Washington
Watched a documentary on TV.
Field Trip! Mount Vernon...of course it was a virtual one.
For a family movie we watched "National Treasure".

Week 2~~
Family read aloud of "Shh! We're Writing the Constitution"
Family devotional on Matthew 10:29
Timeline Work
Research on the Constitutional Convention
Celebrate Constitution Day!!
Vocabulary
Preamble Scramble Game
Movie night: "America's Godly Heritage"

I think you get the picture of how great this study is.  This is perfect timing because our children needed American Government this year.  Also, if you have a Boy Scout or American Heritage Girl they can earn badges through these studies as well.

Sometimes you have to just lay down the textbooks and have fun learning.  This has been our educational philosophy all along.

The study is 8 weeks long.  But is going to take us a little longer, we tend to work at a slower pace than most people.  I love that we can pick a topic and everything is centered around it.  Our children learn a lot better this way.

Once-a-week studies are geared toward children in grades 2-12.  The unit we reviewed recommends grade 4 and up.

The "We The People" can be purchased through their website for $19.95.

You do not have to be a unit study family to enjoy these.  I know these will give you and your family a much needed break from the "normal" school stuff.   There are so many topics available.  Topics such as birds, trees and weather.  Also there is a Christmas one that we are planning on getting next.

Other members of the crew were able to review other titles.  Go on over to the Crew Blog and read what they have to say.

Disclaimer~ As a member of TOS Review Crew we were sent a copy of this study free in exchange for our honest review.  All opinions are my own.
